Founded in late 2006, by Dr Alexander (Ander) Cohen, the Coalition to Prevent Venous ThromboEmbolism (VTE) is a non-profit organization awaiting charitable status, and composed of a multidisciplinary group of European experts whose objective is to raise awareness about VTE and promote educational programmes and healthcare initiatives to reduce the occurrence of VTE.
The Coalition Core Group is composed of 12 physicians and surgeons who represent the various sub-specialities that encounter patients at risk for VTE. They are active members or representatives of diverse European scientific and medical societies.
As the Coalition to Prevent VTE is a non-profit organization awaiting charitable status, the governance of the Coalition Core Group is overseen by an independent Trustee Board.
“The VITAE study shows that VTE kills more than twice the number of Europeans each year than breast cancer, prostate cancer, HIV/AIDS, and road traffic accidents combined”
Dr Alexander Cohen, founder of the Coalition
